Antony Price, Celebrated for Creating Looks for Iconic Acts Like Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
The British designer Antony Price, the visionary UK-based designer responsible for many legendary styles worn by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.
Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, most notably the pastel suits that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."
His passing follows shortly after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the notorious black velvet "dress" once worn by the late Princess Diana.
An Enduring Influence
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London in the early 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the form-fitting, button-fly pants that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with outfits on model Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
Collaborations with Icons
A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His trademark skill to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting form-fitting garments established him as a "genuine original," in the words of the UK's fashion authority.
During the nineties, he began working on outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including several ensembles for her US tour after assuming the title.
With a vocation that covered half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.

- Theatrical Flair: Defining an era of music fashion.
- Genre-Blending Design: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.

Design circles laments the passing to a genuine innovator whose influence on fashion and music remains indelibly etched.
