Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it was expected for questions to be raised about his position after a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in 12 matches, marking the team's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received a lot of backing from the top,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I accept my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “During our regular conversations we have I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this game so far so we'll see.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Response
Slot lamented recurring failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a period like this with outcomes like these.”
Jones stated, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until it is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to the top, prove again what this club is about and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
