Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the player will recover well after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn noted that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during a recent discussion.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he will walk away from this just fine.”

The coach did not know when Boyd might be released the hospital, where his condition is described as critical but stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” he added. “But I will say this, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. Furthermore, that reassures me, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”

Authorities shared security footage earlier this week of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident is currently under review and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. There were no additional victims according to reports.

The shooting happened just after 2am on Sunday morning in the area between MSG and the iconic square. Boyd, 29, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “a great deal” since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a newborn.

“My initial concern, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There’s a process to this, which I won’t get into, but I’m happy at the fact that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, after joining the team, after his season was cut short due to injury on August 18 with a shoulder issue that required surgery.

Boyd came to New York as a new signing in March and was anticipated to become a significant contributor of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a practice session on 2 August and had to be helped off.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad throughout the season while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he attends every game. He is completely involved. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of UT in the 2019 draft. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.6m with New York in March.
