Jurgen Klopp admits a return to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.

Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, remarked that returning someday is something that could happen. Klopp, post a game-changing nine-year spell which brought Champions League success and ending the club's long wait since 1990, has since taken on positions as head of global soccer with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity to Germany's league body.

Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments

The club claimed England's top flight in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters who adore the manager would welcome the notion that he may eventually return. During an extensive chat, he told his interviewer: “I said I refuse to lead another team within the country. Which implies in case it's my former club...absolutely. In theory, it could happen.”

“I’m 58, that means the choice could be mine down the line, I don’t know. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. Fortunately, I don’t have to do that. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”

Conditions for a Comeback

When asked about what circumstances would need to occur to tempt his return to the dugout, he confessed he feels no immediate pull toward coming back. “I don’t even know exactly, I love what I do right now,” he stated. “I don’t miss coaching; I don’t miss standing under bad weather for lengthy sessions; I don’t miss going to interviews four times, three times a week or constant media duties a week.

“I don’t miss the dressing room in that context, but sitting in a restaurant with the players talking freely, I appreciate that. With many victories so there was often great spirits at the club. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled as an instance.”

Commending Arne Slot

He commended of the current boss, acknowledging his role due to the changes that won the league in the previous season. They've been defeated a string of losses in every contest after a summer spending spree, yet he dismissed the idea of it representing a decline.

“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker like Florian Wirtz, you will all eat your words with negative comments. An outstanding player. The French striker, excellent performer. This is a well-built well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry about Liverpool, things will improve.”

Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota

He shared movingly about the death of Diogo Jota, a player he signed during his tenure, and the effect at the club. The Portugal international lost his life in a road accident together with his sibling this past summer.

“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? It’s not about his on-field talent, his personality mattered. I struggle to conceive the team environment missing him. I find it difficult to discuss on this topic. A devastating blow for the entire squad as well. No one within the club would cite it to justify results yet it's the reality. Being in that space which he filled completely. Dealing with that on a personal level is not easy. Overwhelming.”
