The Showrunner Reveals He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... For Now.

Vince Gilligan never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would become a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

As the debut season of the hit sci-fi show wrapping up—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—the writers' room reflected on the audience reaction and whether it will influence the future direction of Pluribus.

On the Tremendous Audience Reaction

It would be easy to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions surrounding Pluribus. He is striving to ignore the noise.

“It's like being constantly eating something incredibly sweet and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I hear about it anecdotally, and that's by design. I have never looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever want to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

Despite his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We don't try to tailor anything,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by online forums.”

“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.

The Big Question: Will the creator Know the Ending of Pluribus?

Given that the creative staff aren’t being guided by fan response, can we assume they have mapped out how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… sort of.

“We have some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to throw out a decent plan for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Then again, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Of course, why not reference the classics?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” he jokes.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
