Ultra-Conservative Ex- Congressman J.A. Kast Elected as Chile's Incoming Leader.
Following a conclusive final ballot, hardline figure José Antonio Kast has clinched the top job in Chile.
A Commanding Victory
After over 99% of polling stations reporting, Kast won 58.17% of the votes, defeating leftist contender Jeannette Jara, who earned 41.83%.
This signifies Kast's third presidency, having previously been lost by the current president, Gabriel Boric, in the 2021 final vote.
Campaign Focused On Law and Order and Immigration

Leading Lacking a Solid Mandate
Despite his decisive popular vote triumph, Kast will not command an overall majority in the legislature, not in the lower house nor the Senate, even when all right-leaning parties are grouped together.
This political situation could complicate his policy goals, including a promise to slash public spending by a significant sum within a year and a half—a measure for which he has not offered specifics.
"There are numerous aspects about how a Kast presidency will look like that remain unclear because he has not explained his methods for achieve them," noted a political science professor.
The expert stated, "On fiscal matters, it is highly probable we will see adjustment measures typical of the right. But where there is far less ambiguity is on security policy, because that has been his workhorse across the race."
